PermalinkG7 is supposed to represent the top nations of the democratic world. In reality its garbage. G(arbage)7 is a bunch of losers.
Starting from last year, it has tasked itself to lead the world to counter China, specifically the Chinese Bridge and Road Initiative (BRI). Last year, it started with an initiative named "Build Back Better World". Now, one year after, this has been renamed and relaunched as “Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment” (PGII). That’s all it has achieved in one year. Nothing else. Nothing has been built. This is a disgrace for a group which is made up of the most developed nations on earth.
$600 Billion for the PGII is a pittance. It is less than the Annual Budget for the US Department of Defense.
Without G7 support, Chinese BRI continues to progress well. This is in spite of all the misinformation, disinformation, fake news and outright lies that the G(arbage)7 and its allies throw at it. It would have done better if not for all those dirty politicking by them.
Compared to BRI, this PGII will be another garbage from G(arbage)7.
This Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment started off with an ignoble aim. It is formed not with the altruism to help develop those nations which need development. Its sole objective is to counter the Chinese BRI. Which means that if it were to be successful to the extend that it kills off the BRI, then its objective would have been reached and the reason for its existence would end. Those nations which subscribe to it will end up with nothing. No BRI or PGII.
Right from the beginning, G(arbage)7 leaders have turned global infrastructure development for needy nations into global politics. PGII is being used as a tool to promote Western-style Democracy against other democracies or non-democracies.
One can write volumes about the merits and demerits of Western-style Democracy. For this discussion, let’s briefly touch on its bearing on Infrastructure Development.
Western-style Democracy is noted for its changing government. It guarantees to change a bad government but it cannot guarantee a good government. It can therefore result in a constant changing of bad government; or bad to worse government. This of course is detrimental to long-term infrastructure projects. For instance, right now, we have a bunch of elected Presidents and Prime Ministers of G(arbage)7 coming together to start a global infrastructure initiative. Few years down the road, how many of them will still be in office? What will happen to their global initiatives then?
Before they start any world or global initiative on infrastructure, each of them should look at what has happened in their own country first. Just compare high-speed rail. In the US, one President announced the initiative for a high-speed rail. Its been more than a decade since. Up till now, not a single kilometer is in operation. Only the governments and Presidents have changed. In that same period of time, China’s high-speed rail system has been augmented with more and better trains and thousands of kilometers of rail tracks. The same can be said for highways, bridges, dams, ports, airports, green energy generations, etc..
Also, take the case of India, which claims itself as the world largest Democracy. It is not surprising that India is the G(arbage) 7 Guest-of-Honor this year. Like those bunch of losers, India is another loser nation. When Shinzo Abe was the PM of Japan, he helped his nation to compete and win against China for the contract to build India’s first high-speed rail. He was proud of himself for that. Years later, when there was little to no progress in the project, he visited India to sort things out but failed. The Indian mess was too much for him. Shortly after returning to Japan from that trip, he resigned. Now, more years after that, and many more millions of dollars spent, there is still nothing that resembles a high-speed rail system in sight.
Look at the horror that Sri Lanka is now. It was doing fine as a BRI participant. But its jealous neighbor India scared it with the con talk of “Debt Trap”. India, with encouragement from Western Democracies, next caused the government of the day to be replaced. The new India- and Western Democracies-friendly government stopped most BRI projects and replaced them with those proposed by India, Japan and Western Democracies. From then on, Sri Lanka’s economy took on a continuous decline until it is what it is today.
These and more examples will show that Western-style Democratic nations cannot be relied upon to build up the world. This has not shown up until a better alternative like China appears. Western-style Democracy is more about destruction than construction. Throughout their histories, they have brought about massive deaths and destruction through wars. Look at what their notorious NATO has done to the world in recent times, in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yugoslavia. Now they have caused another war in Ukraine. They will not stopped there until the whole of Europe and the whole world is engulfed in a conflagration. Its happening. While the war in Ukraine is expanding, Western Democracies are hell bent on starting a war in Asia-Pacific.
That’s what Western Democracies are good at. Waging wars, causing deaths and destruction, not infrastructure development.
